Rudy's Country Store and Bar-B-Q

3 out of 5 Stars

For all locations, see Website.

After hearing a lot chatter regarding this bar b q / gas station combo, it was time to try the closest Rudy's to town.

Bypassing the gas station, I stepped right into a surprisingly spotless bar b q joint and read my options off the giant wall menu. Are you for real with these prices?

I ended up with a half order of sausage and another half order of jalapeno sausage, potato salad, peach cobbler and a beer all for about $10. WOWZA.

It may be their attempt at being green or perhaps they hate doing dishes, but my entire meal was handed to me at the counter slopped on to wax paper and I liked it. Its bar b q, baby, and Rudy's wants to get dirty!

After I stopped by the "fix ins counter" complete with sliced pickles, I sat down at the wood benches to taste my order. This was no Goode Co, but I was pleased with my meal.

I have to say the regular sausage surprisingly beat out the jalapeno sausage - somehow it was just much juicer. Potato salad was par for course but was a great accompaniment to the entree. I will say that the cobbler was a disappointment (just boring and slightly bitter) as I quickly passed it off to my less picky friends.

Rudy's also offers two signature sauces at every table (a spicy and non spicy version). I enjoyed the sauce, but generally prefer a less tangy flavor.

Would I ever put Rudy's on my "on the regular" list? No.

BUT - it's a great road trip stop through. Quick, cheap, easy and tasty.
A solid 3 / 5.

Brisket Bar B Q

5 out of 5 Stars

Website
5208 Bissonnet St
Bellaire, TX 77401

If you find yourself in the Bellaire area craving a hearty meal without a hearty check, drive on down to Brisket Bar-B-Q.

Brisket Bar-B-Q has that classic family owned BarBQ joint feel (red checkered picnic table included).

What sets Brisket Bar-B-Q apart from the other BarBQ spots in the area are the following:

a) They don't get too comfortable relying on their regular lunch crowd to make profit (and they sure do have a regular lunch crowd). They are constantly evolving, adding new items to the menu without forgetting who they are.

b) Their all beef sausage - hands down favorite sausage in Houston. Perfectly cooked, with perfect sauce to go with it.

My friends and I picked up some loaded baked potatoes topped with brisket before going to St. Arnold's this weekend. At least 5 people stopped us at the brewery to ask us where we got "the best looking baked potato" they have ever seen.

Bottom line, Brisket Bar-B-Q is a no frills, family joint with good people, good prices, and GREAT BarBQ.
