Did someone say cheese?
What?! 100 free beers?
I had been hearing rumblings of a Beer and Cheese Festival in The Woodlands....
....so on a rainy Saturday, 2 friends and I embarked on a "road trip" from Houston proper in search of free beer and cheese (since floating the river was no longer an option).
What stood before us upon arrival at the address promising all sorts of gloriousness to our surprise was.....A GROCERY STORE??
Hubbell & Hudson Market & Bistro hosted their inaugural Beer and Cheese Festival this Saturday and I am so happy to have been a part of it.
For us ITL Houstonians, I think its safe to consider Hubbell & Hudson The Woodlands answer to our beloved Central Market - but I think it *may* be better. Please don't stone me.
Perhaps I was a wee bit "cheese high", but Hubbell & Hudson made me feel like I died and went to grocery store heaven. They even had a refrigerated "beer alley" fully stocked with Baltika 7,8, AND 9.
H & H sure does know how to put on a good festival allowing patrons from near and far to sample such an enormous variety of both beers and cheeses and allowed us to speak with knowledgeable and enthusiastic reps. I was feeling quite euphoric post festival and even proceeded to purchase my own beer, bread and cheese (so I guess the festival paid for itself) and got a new customer - provided I ever make my way out toThe Woodlands again.
The store could be a compared to a boutique Central Market as its much smaller in size but still has an excellent selection of our favorite pretentious groceries. What got me really hot was their fish market - SUSHI GRADE GALORE.
The fish were so beautiful, it was as though they were enhanced with brilliant color - which again, I may attribute to the "cheese high".
The Woodlands: I often make fun of your pleasantville, suburbia ways. I can now claim I would drop by for 3 reasons: concerts at the pavilion, to get me to Dallas, and NOW for Hubbell & Hudson.
Seriously though, to the great people of The Woodlands, do you, me and your kitchen a favor and SHOP AT Hubbell & Hudson - a small gourmet utopia in this crazy, crazy world.
